When the cave door opened, the brilliant blue of the Sapphires made the effect of the ocean on a clear day. Marveling at this sight, they almost missed the two sisters who greeted them.
“Hello Will.” Marta ran to him, recognizing him from his visits with his sister Penny in the Amethyst Cave.
When she and Angela saw Will’s father, they had the similar features that their brother Billy had. Their eyes widened in fright until Will told them it was his own dad.
“I am John Robinson.” The father assured them. They sighed in relief.
“Welcome to my Sapphire Cave.” Angela came forward. “Won’t you have a seat?”
“We really can't stay long.” John said politely. “We wanted to see what your brother Billy had said of you all looking like our family. And here you are.”
“Yes, here we are.” Marta agreed. “My sister had made some chocolate chip cookies. I gave Angela the recipe after your son told me what he liked. Now, it's one of our favorite desserts. Would you like some?”
“It has been a long while since we ate, dad.” Will giggled.
“I don't see why not.”
Angela soon presented the warm treats to them. They were just as they remembered when they were back on earth. Going to their grandparents or on picnics. Anything familiar to them brought them back to them back.
“I wish Penny and Marta could see you two.” Will added after their compliments.
“You do know why they can't, right?” Angela asked.
“Thy can't because they can cause a great cosmic storm. But, now I am confused, how come I am the only one who can see Billy?”
“It’s because you two are young and have only two more years together. Once you turn thirteen, you will forget about us. Same with you, Mr. Robinson, once you exit our cave and go back to your own life, you’ll forget us. So will Penny in September, when she turns thirteen.”
“I will miss you.”
“You won’t, we will miss you.”
“May I still come with Penny, until she forgets?”
“Of course.” Marta nodded. They were also compassionate to Will’s request.
“Oh boy!”
John stood by, watching his son excited as ever and wondered if he is ever going to take another holiday. Maybe when he is retired and worn from work. Probably, that would be when they finally make it back to Earth.
It would also be possible that Will might someday have a family of his own and do many things with his children he never did with him.
Some moments later, they said their goodbyes. Marta was going to stay a bit longer with her sister.
In the pleasant surroundings again, father and son left with a good feeling. John hoped that Will would write all of what they had experienced while he could still go back. Of course, hiding his journal away from Dr. Smith.
